How to get camera ready. for People And Photographers

I’ve been thinking a lot about “posing” and what’s the ideal way to go about it, but honestly, I don’t think there’s a perfect, cookie-cutter way. And that’s really the exciting beauty of it. With hundreds of posing tips and tricks out there, really, the key is all in the comfort. When you feel relaxed and at ease, you’re bond to have good time. And that’s the million dollar secret.

Authenticity creates moments that are attractive and unforgettable.

There are a gazillion voguey poses out there. And I can assure you, I probably know about 5 of them off hand and I hardly use them. But that’s not the point. The most fun we have on location is when it feels comfortable, easy and relaxed. The minute you have to force something with someone who isn’t a model, it can take a beautiful setting and couple then make the whole mood feel a little plastic. Authenticity creates moments that are attractive and unforgettable.

Now, I’m not saying you can’t make up fun boss poses, hell no! What I’m saying is that we have to FIRST make sure it comes from a place of comfort. Otherwise we all feel awkward, right? This is mostly how the photographer is setting the subject at ease, and how the subject reacts to it.

With all of that being said, I’ve written down a few tips in approach and direction. As well as some easy ways to feel and look less nervous. Both for people and some great pointers for photographers, because hey, we all want to take beautiful images!

1. Come as you are.

The truth is, you’re really cool. You don’t have to impress anyone, all you need to do is just have fun! Dress in clothes that make YOU feel good.

2. Take it easy

Our shoulders, facial muscles and fingers can carry alot of tension when we feel nervous. Let those loose and smile. Look away from the camera for a few moments if it’s killing ya. Breathe slowly, slow down and give the camera a sweet smile when you feel ready.

3. Bend it, boo.

You don’t have to keep your arms and legs stiff. Angles always look great on camera! A ninja tip here is to make sure you’re not posing in any 90 degree angles (or anything that looks so boxy and squareish), but in smaller, more acute or wider angles.

4. Movement.

Warm up those modeling muscles. A little walk, boogey, spin, run, hair-flick or jump is always fun and will help you loosen up.

5. If you’re with your loved one/s, focus on having moments with them.

Be touchy-feely and make each other laugh! Candid moments are always better than posed ones. Being as close as possible really makes for some magic moments.

6. Trust your photographer.

We got you. They’ll kindly direct you and totally geek over those gorgeous photos of you! They’ve photographed tons of people. And they understand if you’re feeling nervous or unsure and won’t judge you for it either. I assure you, you’ll get into it if you’re determined to have a good time!

And there you have it! Some handy things to keep in mind to kill it for your next session. This is something we could easily go on forever about, but as long as you have the basics, babe – you can work it your way. Do you have any specific thoughts or comments on posing? Or maybe a question? Drop me a DM me on @mishalee.za, I would love to hear them!
